Scope

The course aims at equipping port personnel and stakeholders with the knowledge, skills, and regulatory understanding necessary to safely and effectively handle, store, and transport dangerous goods and solid bulk cargoes in compliance with international standards such as the IMDG Code and IMSBC Code.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the classifications, characteristics and risks of dangerous goods and solid bulk cargoes.

2. Apply the IMDG and IMSBC Codes in daily port operations, ensuring compliance with international regulations.

3. Assess and mitigate risks associated with handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials.

4. Develop and implement emergency response plans for incidents involving dangerous goods or solid bulk cargoes.

5. Conduct inspections and audits to ensure operational safety and regulatory compliance

The 5-Day Training Programme on Management of Dangerous Goods in Ports is an intensive, practical, and interactive course designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the management of hazardous materials in port environments. This programme covers two primary regulatory frameworks—the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code for packaged dangerous goods and the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code for solid bulk cargoes.

Entry Standards

The training is addressed to  officials who are supervising safety and security in ports, Port managers and supervisors, Safety officers and compliance personnel, Cargo handlers and logistics staff, Emergency response teams. To ensure participants can effectively engage with the course material, Participants should have a Basic Knowledge of Port Operations such as cargo handling, storage, and transportation. Some exposure to international regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL) is beneficial but not mandatory.
