Scope

The course provides a practical guide to the benefits of port security management system derived from international best practice, extensive case studies, interactive sessions, and presentations. It brings together the resources of the stakeholder community to make an overall safer community. The course can also be developed on a bespoke basis to meet the specific needs organizations.

Objectives

  • Understand the current maritime security environment including new and emerging threats to maritime security.
  • Access appropriate sources of international legislation, guidance and tools to address those threats.
  • Conduct a risk and vulnerability assessment and review processes to prioritise and manage security risks.
  • Design, plan, and implement a port security management system.
  • Assess, manage, and ensure stakeholder engagement.
  • Implement measures to benchmark and assess their effectiveness.
  • Ensure continual security assurance and improvement.
  • Create a port security management system Business Case.
  • Support and manage the change that a port security management system can provide.
  • Develop a port security management system training and awareness provision.

Entry Standards

The course is addressed to senior  personnel  and managers  with  security, safety  and  quality management responsibilities, suppliers and service providers with security responsibilities. The course is designed for port security and law enforcement personnel who have direct responsibility or can influence security practices. Candidates should have good communication skills and the ability to bring together leaders within their security environments in order to disseminate the information learned and to implement programmes with multiple stakeholders.  A good working knowledge of the English language is also required.
